Homecoming in a Snowstorm
Not the best driving weather in the world. A number of cars slid off the road, but thankfully none of them were serious. The rumor is we’re going to get hit by another snowstorm. It must be reverse-psychology karma as I just asked pre-snow if we were experience global warming.

I know there is a Robert Frost poem that would be fitting to recite right about now, but I just can’t think of one. New England weather with its four seasons and temperamental grayness and reserved beauty. Can any region really match it? No. Did I mention that I am a shameless New England provincial? Living in New York City so I suppose I have to change that to Northeast provincial to be geographically correct.
How old is this house?
This house has stories to tell, that’s for sure. Real craftsmanship went into those windows and clapboards. Is it just going to fade away? Will the ghosts of the past be evicted, and forced to haunt the floorboards of another, more modern dwelling? How many years of our nation’s history has this home lived through? What did the transitory tenants of this domicile experience? News of not one, but two “world” wars? A “great” depression? The war mis-named “civil?” Tell us what you witnessed for the future of our nation is uncertain. Have we reason to be alarmed?
